I would like to introduce myself. My name is Rebecca Patient and I am the full time school nurse at North End Elementary. I have been a registered nurse for 30 years and a St. Paul school nurse since 2004. I feel privileged to work with the students of this school.
My job is to help keep our students healthy and in class. Healthy students are better learners. Included in my responsibilities are:
- Caring for students who become ill during the school day or who are injuried at school.
- Helping students and their families manage their chronic illnesses, such as asthma, ADHD, seizures, diabetes and others.
- Working with the Special Education Department when students have health conditions that are impacting their learning.
- Teaching students life skills, such as basic first aid, handwashing, and good hygiene.
- Screening student's vision and hearing and making referrals when needed.
- Helping families find health insurance or health care providers in the community.
- Adminstering medications or assisting students with health procedures during the school day.
- Promoting wellness issues, such as good nutrition and physical activity, so that North End students develop habits that will help them develop a healthy lifestyle.
If your child has any health concerns, please feel free to contact me Monday through Friday at 651-293-8795.
