North End Boys and Girls Academies Overview :
North End Elementary has had great success over the past ten years:
  • We have been awarded 7 out of 8 academic awards,
  • Our reading scores have met or exceeded the targets, with all students making progress in math.
Our dedicated staff are highly trained by full time coordinators in using Success For All and Everyday Math Curriculum.

         We have implemented a number of changes to our school:
  • New renovations to the building
  • The first public school in Minnesota to use Gender Specific classrooms.  
  • Pre-Kindergarten starting in the fall.  
  • An all day Kindergarten
  • All students have the opportunity to learn from the specialists in science, physical education, and use our fully equipped computer labs.   
  • We offer Gifted and Talented services to students.   
  • Offering Special Education
  • Guidance counselors, social worker, occupational therapists, speech pathologist, an Autism Program,
  • Differentiation activities- students works in small groups to get a concept introduced a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th ... etc.
  • Full time interpreters.  
Extracurricular activities include:
  • Before and after school tutoring, the extended day program, Family Nights, Open houses, and a Dental clinic within our school.  
  • Open House on August 28th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.
  • Students are also involved in the community through partnerships with Sylvan Recreation Center, Washington Middle School, and Arlington High School.
  • Field trips have included trips to the Mill City Museum, Ordway, and Raptor Museum...etc.
  • Performances by the Minnesota Symphonia Orchestra, and Climb Theater.

This fall North End Elementary will begin Single Gender Classrooms:
  • Starting with kindergarten through third grade
  • Adding a grade every school year until 2011.

The classroom will offer:
  • All classrooms will boast a more diverse and well rounded educational experience
  • One lead teacher and an aspiring teacher
  • Daily Success For All program and Everyday Math Curriculum
  • Classroom settings will feature leaders and role models
  • Additional time for math and reading  

Advantages to Single-Gender Education are:

  • Better test scores an average of 15% to 22% higher
  • Less distractions
  • More freedom to explore interests and abilities
  • Students show better self control and moral independence
  • Teachers can custom tailor teaching styles
